Introduction. The name of each listed species is followed by up to five sources that report the species as occurring in Michigan. Sources in all upper-case letters refer to specific insect collections: MSU-ARC refers to material held by the Michigan State University Arthropod Research Collection (data provided by G. Parsons). All others refer to collection data extracted from the Symbiota Collections of Arthropods Network (SCAN) database online at https://scan-bugs.org/. See the Methods page for a list of abbreviations and associated collections.

Species names preceded by a single '?' are considered probable (for occurring in Michigan) but uncertain records. Those preceded by '??' are considered possible but unlikely to occur in Michigan. Species that are fully accepted as having valid Michigan records are unmarked. Species reported in the literature that we consider to be erroneous Michigan records are in a separate list following the others.

ZOPHERIDAE

2 subfamilies, 4 tribes, 8 genera, 10 species

Subfamily Colydiinae

Tribe Colydiini

Aulonium parallelopipedum (Say, 1826): Stephan (1989), Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), Downie and Arnett (1996)

?Colydium lineola Say, 1826: Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), MSU-ARC; MSU specimen is lost but the pin w/labels remains. Those labels say the specimen was collected at Detroit by Geo. Steyskal on 22 Mar 1938 and identified by A.W. Andrews.

Tribe Synchitini

Bitoma crenata (Fabricius, 1775): Ruesink and Parsons (2024), MSU-ARC

Bitoma quadriguttata (Say, 1826): Haack and Ruesink (2020), Leng (1920), Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), MSU-ARC

Lasconotus borealis Horn, 1878: Stephan (1989), Leng (1920), Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), Downie and Arnett (1996)

?Namunaria guttulata (LeConte, 1863): Hubbard and Schwarz (1878); known from nearby to the south, MI record needs confirmation

Synchita fuliginosa Melsheimer, 1844: Haack and Ruesink (2020), Leng (1920), Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), MSU-ARC

?Synchita parvula Guérin-Méneville, 1844: Hubbard and Schwarz (1878); plausible but needs confirmation, many sources have this in the genus Microsicus

Subfamily Zopherinae

Tribe Phellopsini

Phellopsis obcordata (Kirby, 1837): Spilman (1973), Hubbard and Schwarz (1878),
MSU-ARC

Tribe Pycnomerini

Pycnomerus haematodes (Fabricius, 1801): Ruesink and Parsons (2024), MSU-ARC; based on two very old specimens labeled simply "Mic", mostly a southern & east coast species
