Introduction. The name of each listed species is followed by up to five sources that report the species as occurring in Michigan. Sources in all upper-case letters refer to specific insect collections: MSU-ARC refers to material held by the Michigan State University Arthropod Research Collection (data provided by G. Parsons). All others refer to collection data extracted from the Symbiota Collections of Arthropods Network (SCAN) database online at https://scan-bugs.org/.  See the Methods page for a list of abbreviations and associated collections.

Species names preceded by a single '?' are considered probable (for occurring in Michigan) but uncertain records. Those preceded by '??' are considered possible but unlikely to occur in Michigan. Species that are fully accepted as having valid Michigan records are unmarked.  Species reported in the literature that we consider to be erroneous Michigan records are in a separate list following the others.

Subfamily Eurygeniinae

        Tribe Eurygeniini

?Retocomus wildii (LeConte, 1855): Ruesink and Parsons (2021), MSU-ARC; ID of MSU-ARC specimen by Andrews, reviewed by WGR & accepted with some doubt

Stereopalpus vestitus (Say, 1824): LeConte (1855), Hatch (1924), MSU-ARC; S. badiipennis (now a syn.) described from Michigan in LeConte (1855)

Subfamily Macratriinae

        Tribe Macratriini

Notoxus subtilis LeConte, 1852: Chandler (1982), Downie and Arnett (1996), MSU-ARC

Subfamily Tomoderinae

?Tomoderus constrictus (Say, 1826): Leng (1920), CHAS:ENT; needs confirmation, which requires checking male genitalia; should be in MI

??Tomoderus interruptus LaFerté-Sénectère, 1849: Hubbard and Schwarz (1878), MSU-ARC; needs confirmation, which requires checking male genitalia; Werner (1956) has it in central IN, but not farther north

The following species were reported from Michigan, but we consider them to be misidentifications or mislabeled:

Cyclodinus californicus (LaFerté-Sénectère, 1849): MSU-ARC; 1 Driesbach specimen, ID by F. Werner; ID appears correct, but if so the specimen cannot be from MI as this is an eastern coastal species

Formicilla munda LeConte, 1852: Andrews (1923), as Formicomus mundus Lec.; F. munda occurs only in SW USA

Stereopalpus mellyi LaFerté-Sénectère, 1846: Hatch (1924); a SE US sp. (MD-SC-AL-MS) (BugGuide: D.S. Chandler, pers. comm.), should not occur in MI

Notoxus apicalis LeConte, 1852: Leng (1920); a western sp. that should not be in MI
